Central Down FAQ:

1) What does Central Down mean?
Absolutely nothing. When I registered the domain name I was having problems finding something that wasn't taken, so I just plugged this in and it worked.

2) What is the point of Central Down?
Well... good question. Seems to me like the biggest and most important part of Central Down is CDN. Central Down used to just be my personal site, but it's changed since then.

3) What programs did you use to make this site?
Photoshop was used to produce all the graphics, and Dreamweaver was used for the coding, though I hand code everything. I'm just too lazy to find another program to use.

4) Who is your host?
MiddleUp. They're great. I highly recommend them for hosting. Tell them alpha sent ya.

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.
5) Why is it that you have Flash tutorials, but you don't use Flash on your site?
I used to use Flash all the time when I was designing new layouts... I was pretty much obsessed with it. However, I've moved away from it for my personal site (I still use it for certain sites I designe for other folks), just for a change of pace.

CDN FAQ's: (Central Down Network)

1) How do I go about getting hosted by you?
See the Hosting Info page. Also, when you first email me be sure to include your name and what your site will be about.

2) Exactly how much space do I get?
I don't place limits on anyone. I just expect people to moderate themselves. See, CDN is running on somewhat limited disk space, so if one user uploads a ton of huge files and pushes us over the limit, the whole network will cease to function. If this happens, I'll find out who was responsible, delete some of their files to get us back below the limit and give their email address to other CDN members for hatemail.

3) Do you support mySQL? PHP?
Yes and yes.

4) How many mySQL databases can I have?
Two, unless you have some really good reason for needing more.

5) What can I upload and what can't I upload?
See the Rules of Conduct and Terms of Service.

6) Why can't I upload mp3's?
Because it's a big legal risk. If some record company or, God forbid, the RIAA ran across one of your sites and found that you were hosting mp3's you and I would both get in big trouble and we'd probably be sued. I'd rather avoid this, wouldn't you?

7) I can't upload any mp3's?!
Not unless you are the artist/musician featured in the mp3's.

8) Can my site be about anything?
Nope. It needs to be artistic in some manner.

9) Do you make a profit off CDN?
Nope.

10) Then why do it?
Because I'm a nice guy. I've got extra disk space, so why not let other people use it?

11) Can I just have some space to upload my avatars and/or signatures?
No. If you want to do that go somewhere else. CDN is meant for people who actually want to make sites.

12) Will my site actually get traffic?
Yup. CDN gets about 200-300k hits per month.

13) Can I put ads on my site?
If you want. Just know that ads suck.

14) Do I get access to a cpanel?
Nope.

15) Do I get an email address?
If you want, but it won't have very much space (so there's more space for sites). You can have either yourname@centraldown.com or yourname@yoursite.centraldown.com.

16) Are there restrictions on anything besides mp3's?
Yes. Please try not to use content management systems. These can cause some serious security problems for all of CDN. If you're just using something like Rose or another simple news program thats fine. Programs like PHPNuke are NOT ok. If you're not sure a if a program you want to use is permitted, please contact me.

17) Why do you ask for my real name?
I started doing this awhile ago. For about a four month period, I had a lot of difficulty with people emailing me and saying they forgot their FTP password. A couple of these people turned out not to be who they said they were, and the sites were compromised. For that reason, I now ask for people to give me their real name and a secret word for security reasons. In fact, I don't really even care if it's you're real name... as long as you can remember it.

18) What's up with this "secret word" nonsense?
Again, this is a security measure. If you somehow lose your password and/or username, I'll ask you for two things. Your real name and your secret word. If you can't remember them, I'm going to assume you're not who you say you are and deny you access. It sucks, I know, so make sure you write your secret word down somewhere.

CDN Technical FAQ's:

1) Do you offer technical support?
Not in any sort of official sense. If you've got problems I'm usually around to help you out though. However, if you've got a problem like, "I need help installing this forum," I'm not going to help you out (besides making the mySQL database for you). It's not my job to set up your site... thats your job. :)

2) My site isn't working and/or my ftp isn't working. Whats going on?
Wait a few minutes, it should work again. Sometimes the host just goes down for one or two minutes for updates/security reasons.

3) My site has been down for a lot longer than a few minutes, dude.
Then contact me. Look in the Info section for the different ways of doing so. If it's a big problem with the server I usually contact network members.

4) WTF!? My site got deleted!
There could be two reasons for this:
 • Someone got into your site somehow (don't worry, other CDN members don't have access to your site) and deleted everything. This probably happened because you were careless with your username and password.
 • I deleted it. If you break the rules, your site will get deleted. Keep in mind you get ONE STRIKE. If I find a mp3 on your site (or if you break the RoC and ToS in any other way) and I know that you're not the artist, I'll send you an email asking you not to upload any more, and I'll delete the mp3. If you do it again, I'll send you an email telling you to save your files, and about two or three days later I'll delete it.

5) That's harsh.
Too bad. I don't want to have to close CDN because I got sued for copyright infringement.

6) I have a co-admin/co-webmaster. Can I give them my username and password?
Yes, but make sure you REALLY trust them. It gets annoying after awhile when people keep emailing me saying, "My co-webmaster turned on me! Please change my password fast!"

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.
